At a time when students and educators are coping with extreme heat, a new state advocacy group is pushing for the school year to start much later.
The grass-roots group recently launched a Web site, www.savetennesseesummers.org/index.html, and more than 500 families are supporting the mission, according to a news release from the organization.
"The groups' mission is to lobby the legislature for a uniform, late-August or early September school start date for all Tennessee K-12 public school," the release states.
