Jackson Library expands under Private Mgt

The branch, aimed at roping in families in north Jackson, had hit a hurdle in the spring when county commissioners voted against tossing in cash needed to open its doors.

Library officials have since pared down the startup cost of the new branch from more than $90,000 to nearly $70,000, said Sharon Younger, the library board's chairwoman.

The library will be able to pay about $40,000 of that with savings trimmed from its operations in the past year. Younger said. After the opening, she said library officials will start pushing for donations and other funds to pay the difference back to Library Systems and Services Inc., the Maryland company that runs the library.
