Bredesen said CoverKids is for families who make too much money to qualify for TennCare. A family of four, for example, would be eligible if their annual income was less than $51,000 per year. But only an estimated 5,000 children have been enrolled.
"If your child does not have health insurance, the chances are very good that we've got free health insurance for you here, but you've got to fill out an application," Bredesen said.
The governor said there is enough money in the state's budget to insure all of Tennessee's uninsured children. But they'll go without, unless parents start signing them up.
