Taxpayers will cough up $5 million more for Preds?

WHAT!!!! It never fails. Thank goodness for Brad Schrade and the Tennessean on this scoop. OF COURSE they didn't want to make it a campaign issue. They would prefer that taxpayers simply hand over their bank account numbers so they can make the withdrawals as needed!!....holy mackeral....the arrogance, the chutzpah....what kind of damn fools do they think we (or our elected representatives) are!!!! This is un bleepable believable.

Taxpayers could have to pay $5 million more per year to keep the Predators in Nashville under a new lease proposal by a group of local buyers, city officials have estimated, and the buyers are trying to keep the details from the public.

The city would pay the additional money at the Sommet Center, under a series of lease concessions the group says is necessary to close a deal to keep the professional hockey team from leaving town.

Taxpayers now pay about $13 million a year, and the added $5 million cost has been projected by the city finance department in a new analysis.

"We have a legislative strategy in place that will not require public disclosure of the specifics of the ask nor necessitate any response thereto on the campaign's part prior to the election although we will need to have a Sports Authority meeting prior to election day where certain parameters of the proposal will be publicly discussed," attorney James Weaver writes to mayoral candidate Karl Dean and an associate of candidate Bob Clement.

The e-mail goes on to say, "It is our desire, and frankly the driving force behind our legislative strategy, that this decision not be an election issue."
