Unbelievable arrogance by local Govt officials

Below is the link to the article and database of local govt salaries gathered by the Bristol Herald Courier referenced in an earlier post. The article contains many eye opening quotes.

But not without a futile fight from many jurisdictions.

Johnson City never fully complied with our request under the Tennessee Public Records Act; instead of releasing first names, as the law requires, Johnson City disclosed first initials.

It also took Johnson City more than four months to even release the salaries of its city employees.

Bristol Tennessee City Schools complied, but Director of Schools Steve Dixon wrote a reporter: "I have a suggestion. If what we are wanting is a dynamite read (while sharing info with the public), let's include the same data about all Media General employees."

Media General is a Richmond-based company whose newspapers, which include the Herald Courier, are not funded in any way through tax dollars.

"Wouldn't it be nice for the BHC readers to not only be able to compare public employees but also see how that relates to private business?" Dixon wrote the newspaper.
