NO to Mass Transit, YES to Roads

A local group that spent a year studying Charlotte's transportation needs threw cold water Monday on the idea of another half-cent sales tax for mass transit, saying any tax increase should be dedicated to roads instead.

The Charlotte Area Transit System is trying to build two expensive train lines in the next two or three years – an extension to the Lynx Blue Line and a commuter train to the Lake Norman area. But it's unlikely that CATS will have enough money to simultaneously build both projects – totaling nearly $1.5 billion.
