Only fireable offense approved by Teacher Unions

Seventy veteran educators in the Detroit Public Schools may lose their jobs in the next month because they’ve fallen behind in the payment of their union dues, according to a newsletter published by their teachers’ union.

The following was written by Mark O’Keefe, executive vice president of the Detroit Federation of Teachers:

“We are in the unfortunate position of having to notify seventy teachers that they may be terminated for nonpayment of union dues. Paying union dues, or alternatively agency shop fees, is a condition of your employment.

“When members do not fulfill their responsibility to pay their dues, we are in an unfortunate position. We have to notify the district that employment will be terminated in 35 days if the delinquent dues are not paid.”

Wow. Is this proof that the primary purpose of public schools is NOT to educate the children?
