TN Congressman Phil Roe says Government Shutdown Coming

U.S. Rep. Phil Roe, R-1st, said Tuesday he does believe there will be a government shutdown in August, though he maintained the country will not default on its debt.

“There were 17 shutdowns during the Carter administration,” Roe told about 150 people at a Rotary Club of Johnson City meeting. “We will get through this just fine, but it will take some tough decision-making. Yes, we’ve hit the debt ceiling, but I’m optimistic that we can pay our bills.”

Roe said the federal government has been fiscally irresponsible and allowed reckless spending that has added $3 trillion to the national debt in just the two years since President Barack Obama took office.
