MIAMI (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade County commissioners have voted to rollback property taxes to 2009 levels, but now they must look at painful cuts to the budget in order to make up for those cuts while filling a huge budget gap.
Commissioners spent the better part of Tuesday afternoon trying to strike a balance between heeding the call of Miami-Dade County voters looking for tax relief with the human toll of those working for the county. After a couple of hours of serious debate, commissioners would approve new Mayor Carlos Gimenez's proposed tax rate by a 9-to-1 margin.
Now commissioners must prepare for some contentious negotiations as jobs, worker salaries and more are on tap to be cut in order to close a huge budget gap in the county.
