They bought their records or tickets to their movies or concerts. Personally, I wouldn't pay 10 cents for a Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber song but I will defend anyone's economic freedom to do so as long as I can pay $100 to hear this guy in concert. He is also a member of the 1% because when he opens his mouth, this is what you hear:

Philly School Head Given $1 Mil Buyout ...Then Files For Unemployment
Link
School District spokesman Fernando Gallard confirmed that Ackerman has demanded state unemployment benefits and , as part of her $905,000 buyout, the School Reform Commission agreed not to contest any unemployment claims she might file.
The buyout reportedly included $500,000 from the district and $405,000 from anonymous private contributions. I wonder how the private donors feel about the money going to a person who still files unemployment claims after pocketing a cool million.
Time for Nashville to get off the Crack of Corporate Welfare
Gail Kerr's column talks about the first significant vote for council freshman: Does Nashville force Metro Taxpayers to pay the taxes of a big corporation? The answer should be a clear and resounding NO. Karl Dean should NOT be the gatekeeper for business development decisions in Nashville and he certainly should NOT be giving away taxpayer money to large corporations.
Listen to the people!!! The only group that likes corporate welfare is the executives of large corporations. They are happy to pervert our political system and politicians like Karl Dean are happy to help them line their pockets.

The freshman council members, he said, will “not just roll over and take a property tax increase that everyone is talking about without a minimal amount of holding some people accountable.”
Steine said he thinks there has been “considerable council angst over the last few years that we weren’t competing with surrounding counties.” That, he said, will be part of the debate.
“There will be a tremendous discussion, both pro and con,” he said.
An understatement, if ever there was one.

Fraud rate of 76% in "Free" Phone Program for Poor
Who would have expected it?
Link
Link
In most states, the companies that offer the phones are also responsible for overseeing the program, leading to charges that the government is letting the foxes guard the henhouse. Considering that these companies are paid as much as $10 per month for each person in the program, some critics say it’s actually to their benefit if customers sign up more than once.
The results of a Government Accountability Office fraud investigation reinforce that point of view. Only 5% of Lifeline providers have been audited so far, but 76% of those audits have already discovered fraud.

Hey Chattanooga, we like to visit but we wouldn't want to live there
Petition Drive Starts For New City Of Hamilton
Mayor Littlefield asked to expand the city limits as far north as the Bradley County line.
Mr. Matthews said citizens north of Hunter Road "clearly voiced that they do not want to be part of Chattanooga."
He said Hamilton will have a very conservative budget and contract for services wherever possible, including with the Highway 58 Volunteer Department for fire services and with the sheriff's office for police services. He said there are three garbage firms available so there are no plans to offer municipal garbage service.
The Socialist has retired, Long Live the Socialist
Barney Frank is retiring. He believed in a large, authoritarian government and would have been quite comfortable with a government owned and operated financial sector. He will apparently be replaced by an even more radical socialist. A woman who has ZERO respect for the institution of private property and hates the idea of free markets where sovereign citizens are free to buy and sell their private property. Our freedoms are in grave peril.
This is What Nashville Crony Capitalism Looks Like
On behalf of Metro Nashville Taxpayers, Thank you AGAIN, Phil Williams of NewsChannel5. This is unforgivable ineptitude and crony capitalism at its worst. If the politicians want to watch hockey then pay a price for the ticket that reflects the true cost and leave the rest of us the hell OUT!

Tim Pool: Occupy Wall Street Videographer Extraordinaire
A page has been turned, technologically speaking, for citizen journalism. Agree or disagree with OWS, this young man, Tim Pool, has set a very high standard for video and commentary of a news event. The technology which allowed him to stay on the air for 19 straight hours of live video coverage from the NY OWS, is available to everyone. He simply streams video from his Samsung Galaxy SII cell phone to the channel he created on UStream.tv, the other99. News coverage of major events will NEVER be the same again.
More Green Government Idiocy...this time, fuel cells

After spending millions of dollars to run a state complex with fuel cells, partly to boast of their size and also to tout a homegrown industry, Connecticut officials concede privately that the cost is too high and they're looking to get out of a complicated, long-term contract.
The state spends $1.4 million every year for the fuel cells at its 10-year-old juvenile center, an amount that Connecticut's energy commissioner, Daniel Esty, called excessive in an email Sept. 6 to the governor's budget chief.
"The fuel cells installed were oversized for the facility to be able to 'brag' about it being the largest fuel cell installation in the world" at that time, he wrote in the email that was obtained by The Associated Press in a Freedom of Information request.
He was responding to a message from the budget chief, Benjamin Barnes, who said removing the fuel cells would save that $1.4 million each year — "real money by any measure."

The Surveillance Catalog: Where governments get their tools
Link
Documents obtained by The Wall Street Journal open a rare window into a new global market for the off-the-shelf surveillance technology that has arisen in the decade since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The techniques described in the trove of 200-plus marketing documents include hacking tools that enable governments to break into people’s computers and cellphones, and "massive intercept" gear that can gather all Internet communications in a country.
Teacher Union fighting against Blount County Charter School
Teacher unions have been the single largest obstacle to education reform in Tennessee and across the nation. Their continuing, desperate campaign of mis-information and outright lies is about one thing: protecting their power and money. The one thing they fear the most is that education decision making will be returned to the parents.

Oprah Winfrey: The Ultimate One Percenter

It's all the more remarkable because of how Oprah Winfrey derives her income: by developing and providing entertainment media that successfully targets American women. In a sense, Oprah's annual income represents the direct transfer of the income earned by lower-earning women to her.

Occupy video guy gets attacked by other occupiers
TIME did an interesting profile of Tim Pool, the guy who stayed up 19 hours straight streaming video from his Galaxy SII phone via UStream. The video below is an excerpt where other occupiers are angry about being on camera. Apparently they were trying to let the air our of police car tires and didn't want to be ID-ed.

Fannie Mae Needs more billions from taxpayers
Link
(Reuters) - Fannie Mae, the biggest source of money for U.S. home loans, on Tuesday said it needed a further $7.8 billion in federal aid to stay afloat as a shaky housing market widened its third-quarter loss to $5.1 billion.
The government-controlled firm also attributed the deeper cash drain to losses on derivatives used to hedge its exposure to interest-rate swings and on expenses related to home loans made prior to the 2008 financial collapse. In the year-earlier quarter it had a loss of a $1.3 billion.
Fannie Mae has now drawn $112.6 billion in bailout funds from the Treasury Department since being seized by the government in 2008 as mortgage losses mounted, and it has returned $17.2 billion to taxpayers in the form of dividends.
Haley Barbour's crony capitalism OVERWHELMINGLY defeated
Mississippi voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment yesterday affirming the basic principle that Government should NOT use eminent domain to seize the private property of one citizen and give it to another citizen favored by the politicians. OVER 70% of Ms voters approved the measure.
Haley Barbour had vetoed a similar statute last year. He always felt that politicians should be able to seize private property which they could then use to bribe large corporations. Politicians like Haley Barbour must be stopped and MS voters did just that.
Thank YOU Ms voters for preserving Liberty. Backgound HERE.

Another $1.3 TRILLION Federal Deficit for 2011
Link
Last month, the Treasury Department reported that the federal government incurred a budget deficit of $1.3 trillion for fiscal year 2011, almost identical to the deficit it incurred in 2010. As a share of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP), the deficit declined slightly—from 9.0 percent in 2010 to 8.7 percent in 2011—but nonetheless it was the third-highest deficit as a share of GDP since 1945.

"We don't know how the story ends, but we know how the story is beginning," said Paul Taylor, executive vice president of the Pew Research Center. "At the beginning, today's young people are not doing better than yesterday's young adults."

Sen Alexander Fights Against Discretionary Spending Cuts
Link
The arguments have gotten so pointed that Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) wore a flak jacket to a Republican lunch meeting a few weeks ago.
He said he would don the protective gear after Rep. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), an outspoken conservative, blasted him in a meeting for arguing that Congress had already made substantial reductions in discretionary spending.
The clash wasn’t fueled by personal animosity, as Alexander and Coburn have a good relationship. But there is a serious policy disagreement between the two over whether to cut more from the discretionary side of the spending ledger.

Tax hikes for education in Colorado lose big

Colorado voters Tuesday resoundingly defeated an attempt to raise state income and sales taxes to fund education.
With 83 percent of precincts reporting, Proposition 103 was going down in flames across the state, with 36 percent in favor to 63.9 percent against.
That was also true in Denver, where the measure was failing 45.7 percent in favor to 54.3 percent against, in nearly complete returns.
